We left Ireland with our four sons in 2001 for a year and never went back. We began our adventure in Sitges and lived there for sixteen years.
All of our children and now 3 grandchildren still live in Catalonia in various places.
We worked in hospitality in Sitges for many years .
We had holiday apartments and also did B&B.
Then in 2017 we decided to move to the Priorat and look for an old building to renovate and convert into an aparthotel.
In August 2017 we found Cal Maleno which had been the old creamery and butchers in the town.
The partial demolition began in December 2017 and the rest is history!
We were not expecting a Pandemic so the project took longer than we originally expected. But on the 24th December 2021 we finally opened our doors to the public.
We have tried to create a home from home experience and each studio/apartment is decorated differently with our art and other eclectic collections.
We chose very comfortable beds, mattresses, pillows and our luxurious bed linen and towels are supplied by Bassols 1790 in Barcelona.
We know the area very well and will help with any queries you might have. We can book taxis ,restaurant tables and wine tours for you if needed.
Priorat Apartments
Welcome to our Boutique Aparthotel, located in the heart of Falset, the capital of the Priorat wine region.
The building was formerly the town’s creamery and butcher shop. The house was called Cal Maleno, and we have kept this name in homage to its original owners and its history.
The building has five studios and one penthouse.
We have given each one the name of an artist, and the hotel houses our complete art collection, which includes several contemporary Irish and Spanish artists. Books are another form of art, and we have made part of our eclectic collection available to you.
All our apartments are equipped with Smart TVs and WIFI. Our Aparthotel is a home away from home, and we are looking forward to welcoming you.
Falset
Priorat
We chose Falset in the Priorat/Montsant wine region because while we were living in Sitges we visited the area often for walking and wine tasting weekends.
Falset is the capital town of this incredible region. The Priorat has 30 villages and hundreds of kms of walking trails.
There are over one hundred wineries so no shortage of wine tasting and vineyard tours. All the villages have something different to offer. For example, Margalef and Siurana are recognized as two of the top climbing areas in the world. The local people are very proud of their food and the quality of their local products.
The choice of restaurant varies from a very good meñu del dia for approx 11,00 euros to a Michelin Star meal if you feel like spending a bit more.
Falset is only a thirty minute drive or train ride from Reus, the birth place of Gaudi, and the beautiful old Roman city of Tarragona is only forty minutes away.
There are many wine fairs throughout the whole year in several of the villages and the local Fiesta Major is not to be missed in August.
On the first weekend of May Falset hosts the world famous Fira del Vi. We look forward to sharing our experiences and welcoming you to the Priorat.
